SBB Cargo, the goods traffic division of the Swiss Federal Railroads SBB, works on different innovation and automation subjects to make the rail road traffic technological fit for the future challenges in the market. Thus the application of camera technology should simplify the freight wagon control.
The first camera system was built up in spring, 2017 in the marshalling yard Limmattal.
The complete sensor components (cameras, LED lighting and sensors) were mounted in outdoor columns.
The OCR system NUMBERCheck of ASE recognises UIC-numbers of personal and good carriages. The wagon control is guaranteed by means of picture test software by an employee. In the long term the detection of damages shall automatically occur.
